HOW IT STATTED
The mentorship program was initiated by three individuals with sound minds in the tech industry, all of whom are employed by United Health Care. They observed a concerning trend wherein a considerable number of students, particularly people of color, graduated from high school but only a minority of them pursued higher education, especially in the fields of tech and healthcare. In response to this issue, they conceived the idea of mentoring the youth to encourage their pursuit of education in the tech and healthcare sectors.
What are the current outcomes of the mentorship programs? Have there been any success stories to share?
We volunteer as mentors to support and guide youth of color in their career development. Our efforts include providing valuable resources and connecting them with recruiters. Many of the youth we assist have enrolled in bootcamps. To sustain our mission of helping others, we have transformed our initiative into a non-profit organization.
With the support of our mentorship program, we assisted Mohemed Mo'alim in navigating the necessary resources to join a boot camp, leaving him excited about his future career prospects. Mohamed's passion for pursuing a tech career was unwavering, but he lacked the necessary guidance and resources. Fortunately, with the assistance of HEAL mentorship, he found the bridge to shape his future in the tech industry.

Hipo, a determined single mother, completed a cyber security bootcamp at the University of Minnesota and later joined another. Her hard work paid off, securing a position as a security analyst at the Fortune 500 company, UnitedHealth Group. Now a senior security analyst at Centracare, she is committed to guiding youth of color on a similar path to success.

Anwar, a devoted father of four, began his career journey at Prime Digital Academy, driven by a strong passion for programming. He put in tremendous effort to successfully complete the challenging bootcamp, and upon finishing, he secured a position at the prominent insurance corporation, Travelers. Over time, he steadily advanced in his career, earning promotions to higher senior positions while remaining committed to his work at Travelers and dedicated to mentoring young people of color towards achieving their own success.

Additionally, he has worked as an independent financial advisor. nur is deeply committed to assisting the community and spends his time teaching and mentoring them about credit and budgeting. He loves helping the community. He also cares about parents and wants them to understand how important it is to have good credit, as it can positively impact their lives.
